Cursive, Why do we need to learn it anyways?
Why Do Children Need To Learn Cursive Writing?
Cursive writing has been traditionally taught to third-grade students.
There have been schools that have attempted to increase children’s grades and test scores by eliminating the teaching of cursive writing.
Most schools have opted to quit teaching third through fifth graders cursive writing in order to spend more time on English and Arithmetic.
There are several benefits lost in this effort.
Some of the benefits lost are the strengthening of hand movements, hand-eye coordination, and maturing through increased self-confidence
A sense of self-pride comes over when learning cursive writing.
Cursive writing helps children have more self-confidence.
As a child become an adult they will do better in life if they are able to not only read cursive but also write in cursive.
Have you ever heard the quote give me your “John Hancock”
look at the beautiful signatures on the Declaration of Independence!
This is a document of extreme value to our nation! These men’s signatures have gone down in history!
Look at how beautiful they are!
They are a work of art!
Thus, signing your name in cursive writing is a task that is required in many applications as you go through life.
Learning to sign your name in cursive is also a source of identification, as well as, a vehicle of self-confidence! Permanent documents in public records that have signatures include marriage licenses, titles for homes, and driver’s licenses. To be able to have a signature they are pleased with a child will grow in wisdom and status.
Cursive writing has its roots back many generations and should not be neglected in being taught to all children in an effort to save time. Are these positive attributes of teaching cursive writing worth losing in order to save time and money?
Please do not support the dumbing down of our future generation! Teach and encourage cursive writing. Help our future generation to be successful! Therefore let’s keep teaching our third graders cursive writing! Contact your local school board and make sure your school system is teaching cursive writing! If they are not buy the curriculum and teach it to your children and grandchildren! They will thank you for it when they are older!
